Born Malden, Massachusetts on July 9, 1927 (real name Urick), Ed, Vic Ames, Gene Ames and Joe Ames were sons of Ukrainian Jewish parents and four of nine children. They were very poor but Ed attended Boston Public Latin School along with brother Joe. The singing group, The Ames Brothers, was formed in 1947 in Boston and later appeared at the "Roxy Theatre" in New York City. During their early years, they won many amateur contests and made their professional debut at the "Foxes and Hounds", a posh Boston nightclub. They went on to play at the "Chez Paree" in Chicago and "Ciro's" in Hollywood. "The Riviera", just across New York City west of the George Washington bridge, was another nightclub where they appeared regularly. Ed is still best known to audiences for his television role as "Mingo" on the Daniel Boone (1964) series on NBC. Ed also appeared on Broadway in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "The Crucible". He also appeared in the off-Broadway production of "The Fantasticks" at the Sullivan Street Theatre in Greenwich Village which ran until 2002.
From an action background, Ed began his film in career in Hollywood as an action specialist, specializing in martial arts, utility stunts, precision driving and fight choreography. After almost 30 years in film, Ed has made the transition from stunt performer, to stunt coordinator, to second unit director and main unit director. Directing credits include the number one rated "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Next Generation" series, the highly rated "New Addams Family" series and the feature film "LAPD - To Protect And To Serve" starring Dennis Hopper, Charles Durning, Michael Madsen and Marc Singer. Having doubled such notables as Lee Van Cleef, Tom Berenger, Billy Zane, Dominic Purcell, Gary Busey, Eric Roberts, David Duchovny, Michael Dudikoff, and many others, Ed has shot all over the world, and now bases out of beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. Always a champion of independent filmmakers, Ed Arenas has had the privilege to have had two award winning films go to Sundance Film Festival (2000 "Things Behind the Sun" - Allison Anders, and 2004 "Inside Deep Throat" - Brian Grazer). Also Tribeca Film Festival (2014 "Sunlight Jr." - Laurie Collyer) and most recently best film winner at the Liverpool Film Festival (2018 "Off the Rails" - Damian Fitzsimmons) Ed Arenas shares his time between Miami, New York and Los Angeles. He enjoys dwellings as well as offices in these cities and resides wherever his work takes him. Affiliation with such notable projects has allowed Ed to cultivate synergistic relationships with the more notable casting directors such as Denise Chamian, Bonnie Timmerman, Kerry Barden, Billy Hopkins, Mary Vernieu, Ellen Chenoweth, Marjorie Simkin, Roger Mussenden, Fern Orenstein, Todd Thalor, Bonnie Zane. Ed has enjoyed growth in helping build projects using his time earned relationships. Recently he has been working to quickly build package and help produce cost effective quality films using private equity which have quick turnaround in distribution.
