Water and Milk was also awarded the National Screenplay Award by the Mexico's General Society of Writers (SOGEM). The short film was screened at 46 film festivals and won 22 international awards, including the Mayahuel at the Guadalajara International Film Festival and the Best Short film Award at Festival Internacional of Huelva, Spain. Recently, Garcia finished the direction of the rom-com Mexican remake of My Best Friend's Wedding for Sony Pictures. He is also developing the projects Fireheart and Velvet, The Unspeakable Story of Julia Pastrana.
